These books, compiled and published by Robert Cady Gates,
represent some 20 years of carefully recorded research
of the Gates families in the United States.

When Mr. Gates was unable to follow his line back to
their arrival in this country, he decided to try to
collect all the Gates information that he could locate.
This required visits to numerous libraries, courthouses,
and other sources of genealogical information. All of
which he ultimately entered into his computer. The
result was "Records of Gates Families of America From
The Colonial Period To 1860". He soon had located more
information and wrote a supplement. These were
followed by a book about George Gates of East Haddam,
Connecticut.

Back in 1898, Charles Otis Gates penned a book entitled
"Stephen Gates of Hingham and Lancaster, Mass.". Later
researchers found errors in the earliest lines contained
in that book. Robert Gates has provided updated
information regarding those lines in "English Ancestry
of Stephen Gates".

Overall, these materials should be of great value
to Gates researchers and those with connected families.

Published in 1955, "A History of Iron County Michigan
gives the history and other interesting facts about this
Upper Peninsula county. The book was originally
printed in two colums. In order to improve readability
of the pages on a web browser it was converted to
one colum by combining every two original lines.
With this exception the transcription was done without
changes or corrections.
